After being expelled from school in Lazarevac, Tarik was forced to leave his single mother Maria and move to Novi Pazar with his father Safet and his family. We follow young Tarik and his struggle with the new, for him confusing circumstances in which he suddenly found himself, as well as his inner struggle, which at the end of the day will teach him a new life lesson. Tariq eventually goes to live with his aunt, Safet’s sister, where an uncertain future awaits him in a new city.
Adem Tutić (b. 2002, Novi Pazar, Serbia) is a Belgrade-based filmmaker studying Film Directing at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts (since 2021). He began his filmmaking journey at the Free Zone Junior documentary camp with An Epitaph for the Forgotten, later screened at Free Zone, DokuFest, and the Ethnographic Film Festival. His student work spans both fiction and documentary: Scars screened at the Moving Image Festival and Kameo; In My Hometown, According to Islam received a Special Mention at the Bistre Reke Festival; and Forty screened at Herceg Novi, Kameo, Blokadni Fest, and won the Bronze Egg at Kustendorf. He has also assisted on award-winning films (including Truth, a Student Academy Award winner) and contributed to theater and multimedia projects. Beyond his filmmaking, Adem has been active in festival curation and evaluation, serving on juries for the Bistre Reke Film Festival and the Paris Film Festival, where he collaborated with international peers and professionals. His latest short film, Tarik (2025), won the Heart of Sarajevo for Best Student Film and was additionally awarded at LEFFEST Lisboa, Early Bird Bulgaria, the Tetovo International Film Festival, Fine Line, Filmski Front, First Frame Zvornik, the VGIK International Student Film Festival, and the Tuzla International Film Festival.
Adem is currently developing two feature documentaries: Shahid’s Home and Tour de Strasbourg.
